Los Encinos in 1945These photographs document the condition of the site in 1945 when it was slated to be torn down for development and just before it became a protected historic site.

Also, if you look past the buildings into the distance, you can catch a glimpse of the San Fernando Valley just before it became "America's Suburb".

This first image, taken from a nearby hill, shows the entire site. The road in the foreground is Ventura Boulevard. Note the scrape marks in the earth that mark the former location of the prominent mound.
